January 11 Join the Blue Campaign
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security plays a large role in the fight against human trafficking with efforts called the Blue Campaign.  January 11 has been designated Human Trafficking Awareness Day and our club wore blue to raise awareness of human trafficking.  Visit the following website to learn more as well as other ways to participate.  https://www.dhs.gov/blue-campaign/wearblueday  
Gala to Save the 100 Acre Wood - Feb 12th
Several Rushmore Rotarians enjoyed the Gala hosted by Storybook Island to Save the 100 Acre Woods held on February 12th.  There was several opportunities to support the park and new or refurbished sets for the upcoming seasons.  Thank you to everyone who participated and a special shout out to Jackie and her staff.
  
 
Children's Home Advocacy Center Gala
Making a Difference for Generations Gala was held on March 19th to benefit the Children's Home Child Advocacy Center.  Thanks to Golf sponsors, Gala Sponsors, InKind donors, Rushmore Rotarians, ALL the volunteers,  auction package donors and buyers, attendees, Gala committee, Childrens Home board members, and EVERYONE who made it possible, we raised over $45,000 for the Children's Home Child Advocacy Center. Welcome New Member Staci Miller
An entrepreneur, business leader, philanthropist and adventurer, Staci Miller works at Sanford Underground Research Facility Foundation (SURF Foundation) in Lead, SD raising money supporting world-class science and education.  After graduating from the University of Phoenix, Staci launched into the world of nonprofits while simultaneously developing a new business. As a Certified Fundraising Executive, she brings over a decade of fundraising experience and passion to the nonprofit industry. Staci is a strong believer in volunteering and stewardship. She currently serves on the Association of Fundraising Professionals, South Dakota Chapter and the Northern Hills CASA board of directors. She volunteers for Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons, a member of the Eagles Club #3555 and is proud to be a new Rotary member. As an adventurer, Staci has hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim, camped off grid across the US, has sky dived, is a scuba diver and more.  Her favorite pastime is including her 7 grandkids in new adventures and travel.   Welcome to Rotary!
Member Shout Out
 
Congratulations to George Twitero who recently received a Paul Harris +7 (Major Donor) and Carmen Hansen on her Paul Harris +3. The Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. 

Congratulation to David Dolan who was inducted to the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and received the Dwight T. Keith Award (2022).  The Dwight T. Keith Award is the highest national award that the NHSACA bestows on an individual. It is given to recognize and honor a person who has made an outstanding contribution to high school interscholastic athletics and the coaching profession. David coached a total of 87 seasons including: football for 32 years; basketball 17 years; Track and Field 38 years with 18 years as a head high school coach. Dave's girls' track teams won 2 state titles, 3 runners-ups and 3 third places while his boys' teams placed runner-up 5 times and third twice. His teams also secured 1 combined state track and field title.  Service to high school athletics has been the hallmark of Coach Dolan's career along with his passion for basketball officiating.  
 
Students of Distinction @ RCHS
Congratulations to the Students of Distinction at Rapid City High School for 1st Semester 2021-2022: Andre, Love', Ben and Summer.   Great job to the Youth Advocacy Committee who coordinates this effort for the Club with the help of Sean Binder, RCHS's liaison.  Students are recognized in their classrooms, at our Rotary meetings, and presented with a gift card.

Sturgis Rotaract Club held it’s first event at Sturgis Brewing Company, Friday, January 14th with Music Trivia Night.  Great community support, including Rotarians from Rushmore Rotary and Spearfish Rotary Club, the sponsoring club.  We welcome Sturgis Rotaract Club to the Rotary family.
 
Several Rotarians lunched and toured at The Minneluzahan Senior Center In January as a follow-up to the article in the Rapid City Journal and April Malik's Rotary Classification talk.  
 
Always a dedicated group who volunteers monthly at Feeding South Dakota.  Thanks to David Dolan and Todd Hyroniumus for organizing and to St. Thomas More Interact Club for your support.

Strategic Planning Session April 11th 
Plan to attend the April 11 Strategic Planning Session from 5:30 to 7:30 at our regular meeting location: Howard Johnson Express. During this second meeting members will focus on the activities, timeline, and tracking needed to ensure success. Rushmore Rotary is already a strong and healthy club.  These assemblies are meant to set the path to make the small improvements and encourage continual growth in a positive direction to best align in providing service needed by the community, large and small. 
District 5610 announces Four Way Test Essay Contest
District 5610 announced the  Rotary 2021-22 annual District 5610 Four Way Test Essay Contest.  The contest is a great way to spread our Rotary ideals into our communities.  The contest involves 6th graders and they are asked to write a 200 to 500 word essay on "How can I apply the Rotary Four-Way Test to my life?"  For more information, rules, and deadlines you can go to the District Website rotary5610.org or contact Pat Sutliff.
