The District Governor and the members of the COVID-19 Disaster Response Grant Taskforce are happy to announce that thirteen District 5610 clubs have been awarded funds to help with projects in their communities to lessen the impact of COVID-19. These funds were allocated from a $25,000 Disaster Response Grant awarded to District 5610 this fall and will be used by the clubs between now and April 2021.
With support from our members, Rushmore Rotary and District 5610 were able to provide financial help, food donations, prepare 800 backpacks for children during the holiday season and package holiday meals for distribution to help Feeding South Dakota. Awesome service above self. The Community Action Committee will be organizing a monthly volunteer opportunity on the third Tuesdays of each month to help at Feeding South Dakota. As part of our December 22nd program, stocking stuffers were presented to Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI). Since 1978, WAVI has been committed to providing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault temporary emergency shelter, food, and supportive services. Thank you everyone who donated to help make Christmas a little brighter.
Several members were recognized at our 2nd in-person meeting held this month at the Fine Arts Building (Thanks Ron Jeffries). Karl Jegeris and Tiffany Gikling were recognized as new members. Both of these individuals are already active in the community and we look forward to their participation as Rotarians. Several members received Paul Harris awards (and pins) to acknowledge their contributions of $1,000+ to The Rotary Foundation: Jim Huff (+8), Linda Peterson (+8), Norm Peterson (+6), Shari West Twitero (+4), Doug Lind (+4), Terry Whiting (+2), Mark Schriener (+2) and Ann Bolman (+1). Roger Heacock was recognized as a Major Donor Level 1 for his cumulative donation of $10,000, receiving a pin and a crystal recognition piece. Congratulations all.
Around 25 members and guests attended with prizes awarded for ugliest sweater, most festive mask, and worst Christmas present ever. Thank you Social Committee for organizing. Happy Holidays.
Congratulations to fellow Rotarian, Karl Jegeris, who was recently named Chief Operating Officer of SD Children’s Home Society. Jegeris has served as the Director of Collaborative Excellence at CHS since he retired from the RCPD in late June of 2020. “I am honored to be a part of the CHS team,” said Jegeris. “Since I began in late June, I have witnessed over and over again the deep compassion to others the collective CHS team has as we serve children, women, and families throughout South Dakota. I’m looking forward to the future with optimism as the CHS legacy continues.”
