Monday, July 25, saw Rushmore Rotary hosting the 27th annual Black Hills Children’s Home golf tournament at Arrowhead Country Club. The club is long-time friend to Children's Home Society. Since 1989 Rushmore Rotary has contributed to every building project at Black Hills Children's Home, the Community Based Services building in east Rapid City, as well as support to build endowment funds for long-term financial sustainability. Funds generated from the 2016 golf tournament are again designated to support the Children's Home Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Rapid City. This location provides a safe, child-friendly environment for conducting expert forensic interviews of children who are alleged victims of sexual and/or physical abuse. The primary goal of CAC is to reduce a child's trauma by eliminating repeated interviews by multiple investigative parties.

The golf committee is a fairly well-oiled machine with people charged with soliciting sponsors and raffle items. The day of the tournament, the club members turn out to handle the set-up, registration, and the tournament itself. During the play all the par 3 holes have to be supervised to comply with the hole-in-one insurance and a fun longest putt contest is set up on a practice green. A floating green on the course’s lake offers a betting challenge. A new member, Weldon Feightner, a regional manager with VAST, took on the task of hosting an additional betting hole. At the end of the day more volunteers serve at the banquet.
