Our speaker today was our own John Cass, Executive Director of United Way of the Black Hills. United Way was started to help raise money for nonprofits so they can concentrate on their missions. They are shifting towards training for leadership of nonprofits. Their Bridges to Boards program is designed for senior nonprofit staff, current and aspiring board members. They are also focusing on the working poor living just above the poverty level. This added advocacy role will work to bring awareness to this huge problem in SD and the consequences of not addressing it.
