Domico Rodriguez, executive director of the Rapid City Sports Commission, presented on the proposed Rapid City Sports Complex project in Rapid City. The complex, which will be constructed adjacent to the proposed Libertyland amusement park, will be located near Fleet Farm in Rapid City. It will include eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts and 32 pickleball courts. Construction is expected to begin August 2026.
During the Oct. 14, Rushmore Rotary meeting, Jennifer Rollins and Deb Niemi both received Paul Harris Fellowship awards. Jennifer received her Paul Harris +7 and Deb her Paul Harris +1. Thank you for supporting the Rotary Foundation!
The District 5610 conference was this past weekend in Sioux Falls, SD. Our club received awards for membership, 100% for Every Rotarian Every Year ($25/year), Highest given to Polio Plus, number one in Capital Fund giving, and were named Shelter Box Heroes for our donations. Congratulations Rushmore Rotary on another great service year!
Our speaker today was Dan Bilka, board vice-chair with the Rail Passengers Association and advocate for passenger rail service. All Aboard Northwest was founded in 2022 to bring passenger rail service to this region, including South Dakota. This would service large & small communities connecting to national service. Congress has the Amtrak study, but just has to act on it. If citizens desire this service they should contact their members of congress to try and move this forward. Our speaker today was Jeremy Altman, architect with Architecure Inc. They specialize in K-12 education design building and additions. They design with student safety in mind and use natural light and sound deadening for better open spaces. Schools are moving back toward technical education (trades) so they are designing additions that make these programs safer and efficient. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
